A meeting about antisocial behavior and crime in four Sheffield neighborhoods has heard that offenses such as Shoplifting have become the “norm.”
South Yorkshire Police representatives and Sheffield Local Council invited residents of Woodhouse, Birley, Beighton and Mosborough to discuss their concerns.
They heard stories of sales sellers open, openly selling stolen goods in spaces, such as nail bars and parks becoming areas without access due to drug trafficking.
Those who participate in the meeting have asked for a stronger presence of the police and it was said that the force will “respond proactive” to the high problems.
Conformable Local Democracy Reporting ServiceThe committee in the southeast local area heard about problems in the Woodhouse market, where stolen items from stores were sold on “immediately” to passers-by. In one case, customers inside a nail salon were offered butter to buy.
When the BBC visited Woodhouse, a woman said that young people on electronic bicycles and scooters are not “scared by anyone” and have regularly vandalized cars.
Inspie Katie Hammond from the neighborhood police team covering the southeast of the city said: “Everything that is raised at the meeting was taken on board and my team, and the plans are implemented to respond proactive to some of the problems brought to our attention.
“In the coming days, officers will patrol areas of concern and we will also visit some of the companies referred to to the meeting to provide reinsurance and to provide crime prevention tips.
“We are stronger with the help of the public.”
