An 8 -year -old boy died on Sunday night in what the police think it was an accidental shooting at a home in New Haven.
The police said the officers were called to the residence and found the child lying on the kitchen floor with a shot wound.
The boy was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Family members were present in the house at the time of the shot, according to the police.
Detectives are investigating the sequence of events that led to shooting, which seems to have been accidental, officials said.
“What is clear is that this was a tragic, preventable and meaningless death,” said the Chief of Police in New Haven, Karl Jacobson.
