EMCC emergency medical services extend the program to reach the students from the Rural Maine

Bangor, Maine (Wabi) – Liz Russell, the president of the Eastern Community College Maine, as well as the staff and students greeted Senator Susan Collins at the Public Safety Training Center.

Collins worked to secure $ 3 million in the Congress expenses for fiscal years 2023-24.

This helped leaders and educators part of the Emergency Medical Services Program to buy a new ambulance.

“It shows you the difference that the right equipment can make, the simulation in the laboratories, the true ambulance can do,” said Senator Collins.

Collins came to talk to the director of the EMS program who said that someone who was once a student at the EMCC, was his mission to open more opportunities for future generations.

This includes disclosure to rural areas.

“Arriving at our more rural communities is truly important,” said Aiden Koplovsky.

“We serve a series of different communities here, in tomorrow and a series of different counties in the more rural areas of tomorrow, which makes it very difficult for people to come to campus and travel here. Some students travel over two hours away, which is a barrier to access that education. “

One way they do this is by offering distance courses, as they do for Deer Residents who want to complete the necessary certifications.

Students like Olivia Britton are inspired and she is already going on a good word.

“I told my brother that he should come here,” Britton said.

“He is a senior in high school right now and I told him he should consider coming, taking an EMT class when he is empty here, because he is very great and is indeed valuable.”

Russell said they are aligning with their mission to create accessible education to all the hands.

They seek to be part of a solution to a continuous crisis in tomorrow, the lack of emergency services.

“We desperately need health workers in the state of Maine and through a small collaboration and innovation, colleges and universities can reproduce this model and it can be ensured that individuals in these distant areas have access to high quality programs,” Russell said.

“He was a real game exchanger for East Maine.”
