4 Arrested in Alabama prison smuggling, drug trafficking incidents

Montgomery, Ala. (WSFA) – Four suspects are under arrest and are accused of investigations at the Alabama correction department, after alleged smuggling and drug trafficking incidents at two Alabama prison units.

The arrests took place on Saturday and Sunday after three incidents, two at the Correctional Facility fountain and one at Montgomery Women Facility, according to Adoc.

The first arrest took place on Saturday, when the Adoc K9 officers observed a programmed visitor, identified as Leigh Culawell, acting suspiciously. Investigators recovered about 78 grams of synthetic drugs, evaluated at about $ 3,900.

The next day, the correctional officers from Fountain observed a suspicious behavior exposed by Angela Mclain and Jadiamond Bolden, two visitors to the unit. Officers Adoc K9 responded, and after an investigation, the officers recovered about 62 grams of synthetic cannabinoids, evaluated at about $ 3,100 and about 136 grams of marijuana, evaluated at about $ 2,700.

The third incident happened on Sunday, this time at Montgomery Women’s Facility, where a suspicious behavior of the visitor Christopher Farris was brought. Adoc said that Farris was approaching his vehicle, tried to give up a hidden article in his pants. Since then, the officers have identified the elements like suboxone bands, which are a controlled substance.

Culawell is owned at the prison in Escambia county on the charge of illegal distribution of a controlled substance, synthetic drug trafficking and promoting the second -degree smuggling.

Mclain and Bolden are also held at the prison in Esambia county, under accusations, including synthetic cannabinoid trafficking, distribution of a controlled substance, possession of the first degree of marijuana and promoting the second degree smuggling.

Farris is held at the prison in Montgomery county on the charge of holding a controlled substance, promoting the second -degree imprisonment and conspiracy for committing a controlled substance offense (distribution).
