Do you want to pay a fine of court? The new program in Jackson can help you solve it

On Monday, Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba announced efforts to create the “clean broom” program, which would allow people to pick up garbage instead of paying fines or serving time.

The mayor credited the coordinator of the Satara Patrick Environment Program because he led the effort, saying that the previous program of the city was stopped by a consent decree.

For her part, Patrick said that the program will give to those who have been convicted or fined by the Jackson Municipal Court a way to solve these sanctions.

“We have designated areas in which they will be asked to go out and clean … (The) Focus will be the neighborhood cleaning, running storage, garbage and taking over the scraps and illegal storage and mitigation,” she said.

“We are working with legal to do things, regarding the chief prosecutor and the contracted public defender of the city.
