Peru declares an emergency and unfolds the army as violence grows in the capital

In the Congress, opposition parliamentarians asked a vote of confidence against the Minister of Interior, Juan José Santiváñez, for what they say is a lack of a growing violence plan. The vote is expected to be discussed in the plenary of Congress at the end of this week.

The attack on the popular singer was not the only violent weekend event. On Saturday, an object exploded at a restaurant in the capital, hurting at least 11 people.

Boluarte’s government has previously decreed an emergency in an attempt to stop violence between September and December.
