Bennett’s process begins

The trial for Roderick Bennett, accused of satisfying the lust with a minor under 16, started on Monday.

A jury consisting of five women and seven men were chosen. The opening arguments were presented by Liem Walker for the state, and John Bullar as a defense lawyer for Bennett.

Bennett was charged with the great jury of August 2023 for an incident that was supposed to have taken place in May 2023.

Opening for the state, Walker said the victim was going outside his house, when Bennett asked him to enter his truck. She said she had founded the victim, who immediately ran home and told her father, who called the police. Subsequently, the child was interviewed by the Children’s Advocacy Center by a criminal examiner, who is expected to testify.

For defense, Bullard said that the defendant had met the victim’s mother since high school. After a period of four years in the army, Bennett eventually moved to Warren County, moving alongside the victim’s family. Bullard said Bennett denies that the victim had entered his truck on the day and claims that he only spoke to her inside the truck. He said the samples would show that the victim is not credible.

The process will resume on Tuesday at 9 am.
