“One of the things we wanted to look at was a potential home and how that mixture could look.”

The next step would be to assess the costs and design the concept.

“We live here, we want to see a large green space, food forest and a lot of spaces that connect people rather than the old-style acre section, all fenced, so we wanted a different approach,” said Hipngo.

“I felt that the homes for the elderly and a tiny and durable village are a point of difference that is led by Marae.”

Hipango said that the location of the Marae and proposed housing project was ideal, because “Aramoho is a strong horticulture community, after history.”

He said that Whanganui needs housing if it grows economically.

“We consider it a contribution to that space.”

Kate Joblin, the portfolio holder of the Whanganui District Council, Kate Joblin, said the project was positive for the community.

“The exercise of purpose will be an important step to provide valuable meat on the bones of their plan.”

Joblin said that community organizations such as Ao Hou Marae have been well placed to fill goals in accessible homes in Whanganui, especially for older, more vulnerable residents.

The Whanganui District Councilor Kate Joblin says the council is looking forward to seeing the progress of the plans.

Hipango said that the Whanganui Community Foundation has played a key role in putting the project, offering the initial financing for the main plan and allowing you to -a -Hou Marae.

Community consultation is another important aspect in the planning stage, hipngo thanking families who own and part of the land for use for housing.

“We are not a commercial developer that comes, builds then leaves;

“It is by their approval to go further and explore housing.”

The complex details about costs, the number of houses and road access will be revealed after geotechnical investigation and evaluations.
