11 dead in drones against Taliban in Pakistan

Peshawar, Pakistan: Eleven people were killed in drone strikes in northern Pakistan, launched on Saturday by the Taliban, who killed seven days earlier, AFP police said.

Three drone strokes were made on Friday night in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a senior police officer said in anonymous conditions, aimed at the “Pakistani Taliban Hiders” in the region that is adjacent to Afghanistan, where violence has erupted in recent months.

“It was only this morning that I learned that two women and three children were among the victims,” ​​he said.

“As a sign of protest, the local inhabitants placed the bodies of the victims on the road,” saying they are “innocent civilians”, he added.

Another police source said that “an investigation is underway to determine if the Taliban fighters have been present on the sites at the moment of the attack.”

“It is too early to say if the affected places were civilian areas or if they were home to Taliban,” he added.

Taliban Pakistani-known as Tehreek-E-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)-announced in mid-March a “spring campaign” against security forces, threatening “ambushs, attacks, suicide attacks and strikes”.

Since then, TTP has claimed responsibility for about 100 attacks in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

In the same province, the “armed Taliban” fighters who hide in a house and killed seven soldiers who performed an operation, a police source said on Saturday.

During the shooting, which lasted a few hours, the army launched helicopter weapon, killing eight Talibans, while six other soldiers were injured, according to the source.
