For almost 40 years, my family has worn an unbearable pain due to the brutal killing of my husband, the special agent of the DEA, Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. Kiki was a devoted father, a loving husband, and a dedicated DEA agent who gave his life to protect American citizens of ruthless drugs CARTELS. He believed in court, fighting for what was right and making the world safer for our children. But in 1985, America lost a hero when Kiki was killed in the worst imaginable.

In February that year Kiki was kidnapped by Guadalajara Cartel. He was tortured for hours – beaten and burned with cigarettes. Rafael Caro Quintero and the other cartel The captors refused to let him slip into the unconsciousness, injecting him with drugs to keep him awake, so that they feel every ounce of their brutality.

Mexico extradite dozens of cartel leaders and members to us, including Drug Lord Rafael Caro Quintero

We kept our hope that he would come home. This hope was shattered when his body was found, thrown as if his life had nothing. But Kiki’s life – and his sacrifice – he understood something and still does. And so, for 40 years, my family and I fought to make sure that his death was not in vain.

For too long, the justice has been handy, because Rafael Caro Quintero and other members of the cartel responsible for Kiki’s murder operates with impunity. They built vast criminal empires, flooding the streets with Fentanil and leaving the devastation behind them. CARTELS There are violent organizations, without taking into account human life. They take advantage of bad – by smuggling drugs, trafficking in people, terrorizing innocent and countless other horrible offenses. And yet, for decades, they worked without facing the entire weight of the American law.

Was in July 2022, after years of hiding, that Rafael Caro Quintero was finally captured in Mexico. Unfortunately, at that time, the US government has not tried enough to make it pay for its crimes. But once President Trump was re -elected, I had hope again. I knew he believed in our case and I had a belief that he would keep his promise to keep his cards responsible for their attractive crimes.

On his first day in office, President Trump has courageously issued an executive order to designate Mexican cards as foreign terrorist organizations. This classification is more than a legal instrument – it is a recognition of the horrors that these groups influence Americans as my husband. And even more, it helps to reduce the financing to cartels and their support networks, because the terrorist designation allows my families to seek justice against them in court.

After Quintero was extradited to the United States earlier this month, my family and I have a lawsuit against the man who killed my husband. For the first time in almost four decades, while waiting for a criminal trial in the United States, we hope that those responsible for my husband’s death will be held responsible.

I want the cartels that killed my husband to pay a price for their crimes. But what happens to the other families who lost their loved ones for the violence of the cartel and are still waiting for right? I speak because I want to inspire other families to take action.

The historical designation of President Trump of several Mexican cartels as foreign terrorist organizations erases a way for many families to follow justice, but not for all. Several families like mine, who lost their loved ones for the violence of the cartel, would have the opportunity to respond to cartels for their crimes if the administration expands the design of the foreign terrorist. In particular, Juárez Cartes also in Línea, responsible for the brutal massacre in 2019 of nine American citizens in Lamora, Mexico, including six children, are some of the most dangerous cartels in Mexico and should be the first added.

My struggle – Kiki’s fight – does not end with Quintero’s arrest or this process. President Trump sits with us. His administration could add Juárez, Línea and other cartels on the list of terrorist designation to protect and bring right more Americans. We owe Kiki and thousands of other victims to honor the lost life with actions that make our country safer.

For 40 years, I have been waiting for justice. Now, I am determined to make sure that every American victim of ruthless brutality of cartels and terrorism can obtain the justice he deserves.
