Nokia modernizes Vodafone Idea’s optical network to improve 4G services and support 5G

New Delhi, India – Nokia announced today that it will upgrade and expand the Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) optical transport network in the key and circle locations in India. The update, which uses Nokia’s optical switching technology, will increase its capacity, supporting 4G data. In addition, Nokia equipment will modernize the network, providing flexibility and efficiency and will stimulate the 5G of VIL launch.

Among the comprehensive optical suite of implemented products to allow this network review are the Fotonic Service switch (PSS) from Nokia and its CDC-F 2.0 wavelength switching technologies. In addition, Nokia will also implement the super-coherent optics of the photon service engine (PSE-VS), a super-coherent optics, the wavele density (DWDM) and the optical transport network (OTN) to ensure that customers continue to experience high connectivity even during the maximum use period.

The solution prepared for the future of Nokia will also allow it to efficiently expand its network from C+L band, as needed, avoiding the need for any forklift in the platform or architecture. This implementation will reduce the operational costs of VIL. In addition, the project gives priority to sustainability, incorporating energy efficient solutions and implementation processes activated by automation to minimize carbon imprint.
