Is it rude when I involve strangers in my guessing game?

Dear Miss Manners: I am an accent frame, especially about the accents in the UK and its current colonies and its former.

I like to guess where people are once I have heard them (not necessarily for me).

To find out if I think it’s right, I have to start a conversation with them. I usually begin to ask them if I am right – but not so much. And then this usually leads to a further conversation.

Is it rude to start a conversation with a stranger asking what country do they come from? I really want to know their background, not just to find out if I think it was right.

Gentle reader: Here is an important general rule to apply to many such small plans, including your own:

Never make guessing about people. Never, never.

Do not guess where they are, do not guess if they are pregnant, do not guess how old they have – do not guess.

And do not take this as permission to ask directly. In any case, you should not be a look.

It may be true that if you guess correctly, you can start a conversation. But even a correct assumption could assume that the person does not really belong here.

Dear Miss Manners: We are often invited to funds collectors by a couple in our circle of friends. Buy a table or a ticket package that pays for our admission. However, as these are the funds collectors, the waiting wait that we contribute monetary.

I asked to participate in functions for organizations that my consciousness cannot support, but what happens to events for non -contversal groups?

In these cases, I would simply prefer not to pay money to socialize with friends I see all the time.

This couple also participates in meals in all our homes, but never each other, besides inviting us to these funds collectors. I do not think these are truly “hosted” events, because a contribution is expected.

My husband does not like it when I pray saying we have plans, as he thinks that. I think it is a harmless white lie and I know no other way to get out of the situation without hurt feelings.

An evening of mediocre and lifting drink and drink is not what we consider fun. Is there a more polite way to get us out of the guest list?
