The woman claims that she was isolated by the passenger community for reporting “terrifying” rapes by the husband – The Irish Times

A man has been closed for 12 and a half years for rape and snatches his wife while being armed with a knife.

The central criminal court has heard that the victim now raises his children alone and has become isolated by other members of the passenger community because he brought the man to court, as “he was not the traveler” in this regard.

She claimed that others in her community would have developed what happened, but followed for the sake of her daughters. The truth was now and that he said the accused rather than the one who was the monster, she said.

The 25 -year -old defendant, which cannot be identified to protect the identity of his wife, was convicted of violating, sexual assault, false prison and threatened to kill the woman in Dublin in September 2023.

He has 35 previous convictions for crimes, including theft, theft, robbery and violation of a protection order.

Passing the sentence Monday, Mr. Justice Kerida Naidoo said that the woman was subjected to two rapes and two serious sexual assaults by her husband in what was actually the family’s home. He said it was a “terrifying” experience for her.

The judge mentioned that the man does not accept the verdicts of guilt and did not express any remorse.

He set a 13 -year sentence and, mentioning that there is little in the way of mitigation, he suspended the last six months for a number of conditions, including the fact that the man is committed to the test service.

After the sentence was pronounced, the man’s supporters began to shout and exchange insults with the plaintiff before being taken out of the court.

During the trial, a local guard told Mark Lynam S sc, in criminal prosecution, that the couple had a turbulent relationship, with a series of safety order and hindrance obtained over the years.

The guard said the accused has been in prison for several years, but the couple resumed the relationship after release. They lived separately at that time, and she traveled to her at home on the day in question.

He went to bed as he felt bad and woke up to the man rubbing his leg. She told her she was bad and returned to sleep. She said that the man then lifted up above her and put her hand over her nose and mouth, leaving her in unable to breathe.

The court heard that he fought it, suffering injuries in this process and got out of bed. He went to the window to try to take his breath, but he may have lost consciousness and fell on the bed.

The woman said she saw the man with a knife and he told him not to speak or shout.

“If Gardaí comes, I will stab you to death,” he told him, adding that he will face prison in any way.

The woman went down to the ground floor, in a lifetime and weak, while the man told her to clean the blood, the court heard. She said that her face was gray gray and the blue lips from the snatch.

He saw a knife on the couch in the seat and tried to put his time, as he was afraid he would kill her if he would climb upstairs.

She made him swear in the lives of their children that he would not kill her before climbing the floor again. They went into bed and she explained that she didn’t want to do anything.

The court heard that the accused did not listen to him and raped it. Then he assaulted him sexually before he raped the second time. The woman did not resist, but explained that she did not want to do it.

The woman accused the man of rape, but sought to minimize him. She said she promised she wouldn’t report it to leave the house. She told her she would go to the Social Assistance Bureau, but she went to Garda station and reported what happened.

Later, the man was interviewed and denied any sexual assault or rape, accusing the woman of doing it.

In the victim’s impact statement, the woman stressed that she came from a strict family and thought her new husband would be decent when they were married at a very young age.

However, she said it did not last long to show her true colors, because he would drink, play and deceived it from social assistance payments when he had children to feed.

She said she came to her promises to her release from prison and told him that she had managed anger.

However, she said that the man did a prisoner in his own house and tried to kill her in his own bed.

She said she was constantly worried about her safety and suffered flashbacks and nightmares that night.

Tim O’Leary SC, Defense, said the accused does not accept the facts of the case. He sent his client had no previous convictions of this kind.
