Fentanil sentences that impose tougher fentanil sentences delete the legislature from Georgia

It is directed to the governor’s office: the legislation that stiffens the penalties for fentanil trafficking.

The law of eradication and removal of fentanel imposes a number of minimum mandatory punishments for those convicted of fentanel trafficking. The smallest amounts covered by the draft law – between 4 and 14 grams – would result in a minimum sentence of five years in prison.

The opponents of the draft law agreed that Fentanil is a major problem in Georgia, but they claimed that the mandatory minimums have proven to be ineffective in several studies dating from the 1990s.

The supporters fought that the adoption of the mandatory minimums for the members of the drug bands treating Fentanil in Georgia I -could discourage their operations in the state. The draft law passed 50-3 in the Senate and unanimously in the Chamber.
