Man (67) accused of killing Armagh from 1976 in court after extradition from the Republic – Armagh I




A 67 -year -old man accused of killing Joseph James Porter in Armagh In 1979, he was extradited from the Republic of Ireland today to the Northern Ireland.

The man was arrested in the Republic of Ireland, on June 24, 2024, under the suspicion of killing Mr. Porter in Armagh, on June 24, 1979, offenses of firearms and a member of an outlawed organization.

The body of Mr. Porter was found near the entrance to his farm in Cregggan Road, Mountnorris.

The soldier of the partial -time Ulster Defense Regiment died due to the wounds shot at the head and body.

The extradition procedures were completed today, Wednesday, April 2, with the return of the accused to Northern Ireland.

He was subjected to an investigation of the PSNi inheritance investigation branch.

He is sought to be tried for crimes of murder, holding a firearm and ammunition with the intention of endangering life and belonging to an outlawed organization. He will appear in front of the Court of Newry Magistrates later today.

Sergeant Davey from the International Police Unit said: “The Northern Ireland Police Service continues to work closely with the authorities of the Republic of Ireland to locate and return those who wanted to be tried in Northern Ireland.

“In this particular case, I worked closely with the PSNi inheritance investigation branch and a Siochana guard to locate this man and bring him before the courts.

“We will continue to work closely with our partners to bring the criminals before the courts and to deliver justice to their victims and families.”
