Dayton Man receives 15 years in life to kill the child, sexually abused by the second child

April 2 – a Dayton man who was guilty of killing a small child and sexually abused the child’s sister was sentenced to a period of life in prison.

Nathaniel Levi Schmidt, 26, was sentenced by the Judge of Common Departures in Montgomery County, Timothy O’Connell, to 15 years in life in prison.

He will also be appointed as a violent offender and a level II sexual offender, which means that if he gets out of prison, he will have to register his address every 180 days for 25 years. It also ordered to pay $ 2,284 in refund.

Schmidt was accused of killing Ryder Thomas Williams, 16 months old.

On December 12, 2022, the doctors were called to block 30 in North Hedges Street, on a report of a child who does not breathe. They took Ryder to the Dayton Children’s Hospital, where he died five days later.

“The cause of death was determined as the trauma of the blunt force,” said the prosecutor of the prosecutor in Montgomery County, Greg Flannagan.

Schmidt was babysitting on that child at that time, as well as his two sisters, between 5 and 3 years old, and his 2 -year -old brother.

That day, Schmidt called the father’s father to say that the boy did not breathe, and the father called 911.

Children’s mother, Chelcie Beerey, said they were staying with their father in Dayton, who shared an apartment with Schmidt and had been good friends with him from high school.

As they investigated Ryder’s death, the detectives said they found sexual explicit photos of a 3 -year -old girl known by Schmidt on his phone. Later, Beerey said the girl is her daughter.

At the time of writing, Schmidt was in the prison in Montgomery county, where he was from his arrest on February 2, 2023.
