The US Embassy in Romania announces updated visa requirements after the suspension decision

The United States Embassy in Bucharest has announced an update of visa requirements for Romanian citizens who want to travel to the USA, following the decision of President Donald Trump to suspend Romania’s entry into the visa’s renunciation program.

According to the announcement, starting April 7, 2025, all temporary visa applicants must present a printed copy of the confirmation page with the bar code to demonstrate that they have used the same DS-160 request form to schedule their interview.

Moreover, before the interview, the applicants must check if they have completed and submitted the DS-160 online form and ensure that the bars code on the DS-160 confirmation page matches the one used to program the interview.

“If the numbers do not match, the applicants who have scheduled their interview using an incomplete or incorrect form will not be allowed to continue with the interview and will be asked to reschedule their appointment by Ustraveldocs.com/ro/Using the number of DS-160 barcodes correctly. Please note that the consular section cannot modify or update the DS-160 bar code numbers on behalf of the applicants. Make sure that the bar code number is the same to prevent delays and to ensure a smooth interview process, ”said the Embassy on Wednesday, April 3.

Romania was going to enter the visa quitting program until last week, when the United States temporarily suspended implementation of the electronic system for the authorization of travel for Romanian citizens for a review. Department of US Internal Security announce that the revision aims to ensure compliance with the VWP security requirements.

Romania’s accession to the Visa’s renunciation program had to take place after the country has fulfilled the rate of refusal to qualify last year. By joining the Dreame of renunciation, Romanian citizens should not have participated in interviews at the American Consulate, which makes the process significantly less expensive and consume time.

In addition to the criterion of the refusal rate, Romania’s access to the Visa renunciation program has imposed sitting standards related to the security of travel documents, information exchange and implementing concrete measures to combat terrorism and illegal migration.
