Los Angeles – In February, Sheriff’s deputy in Los Angeles County, Trevor James Kirk was found guilty of using excessive force during a sale investigation outside a Lancaster supermarket.
The deputy of the sheriff in Los Angeles County was found guilty of using excessive force when he assaulted and sprayed a woman during a sale investigation outside a Lancaster supermarket.
At the time of the incident, the department said that the deputies had caught a man and a woman accused of shopping inside a Winco Foods store.
Now, deputies from more than 20 sheriff’s stations protest about what they say is a wrong conviction that has sent shock by department.
“They guess every second move and, when you are experiencing a combative suspect that can be armed, you may not have seconds divided to act,” said Nick Wilson, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Association. “Now, the deputies ask themselves,” if I defend myself or the public, will I become like Trevor? In the face of federal accusations and a 10 -year prison sentence? ‘
This week, the deputies from the county at boycott the 120 -mile annual baker at Vegas Challenge Lay, a race for members of law enforcement that must increase morale and comradery.
“This boycott is emblematic of a much broader problem that takes place right now in the sheriff’s department and the leadership that led the department in the field,” Wilson said. “This boycot is the only thing that deputies can actually do in their control sphere that does not harm the public.”
Kirk’s legal team claims that he followed his training during the incident. Eyewitness News addressed the sheriff’s department for comments, but did not hear back.
“We hope that this new administration will analyze the armament of the Department of Justice under the administration of Biden of this deputy because he simply did his job,” said Kirk’s lawyer, Tom Yu.
Kirk’s legal team has submitted a motion to leave his verdict, arguing insufficient evidence. The team said he intends to call if he is refused.
