INGALLS, NC (WBTV/Gray News ) – A Tennessee woman who went missing during the Helene floods has been found dead.
Avery County authorities say 70-year-old Charlene Wilber has been identified as the deceased person found Oct. 23.
Deputies said that while conducting a search operation on the North Toe River in a foot-only area, they found Wilber’s body.
The 70-year-old had been missing from Buck Hill Campground, about 3 miles north of Ingalls, since Sept. 27.
According to authorities, Wilber was one of three remaining missing persons in Avery County.
On Wednesday, state officials announced that Helene’s death toll in North Carolina had passed 100.
