3 people face charges of murder after fatal shootings in Pier Whitney

Cape Breton Regional Police says a person is dead after a morning shooting in Whitney Pier, NS

In a statement issued on Saturday morning, the police say they were called in a house in the Shore Road area, after firearms were heard. The police say a man fled from the scene, as well as a white truck.

The police say they tried to stop the vehicle, but they failed. Three people inside the vehicle then fled to a wooded area.

An emergency alert was issued shortly before 3 in the morning to locate suspects.

The police say that the emergency response team, two canine units, a drone unit and other policemen sought suspects, which were later arrested at an apartment complex.

On Sunday, the police said all three suspects were accused of killing the first degree and identified the deceased as Jeffrey Pearson, 44 years old.

It is not clear where this apartment is.

The community will be shaken, says the area counselor

Councilor Kim Sheppard-Campbell, whose district includes Whitney Pier, said she and her husband were aroused by emergency alert.

“My husband had heard some noise, he thought they were fireworks in the area,” said Sheppard-Campbell. “I never thought it would be a shot.”

He lives a street away from where the shooting took place.

“I considered that Whitney Pier is one of the safest places around and now the community will be shaken over it, for sure,” said Sheppard-Campbell.
