Gatwick’s 22 billion pound extension decision was delayed to hit the UK airport | Great Britain | News

The decision to bring a second runway to Gatwick airport in regular use was delayed by the government in a blow to the 22 billion pound plan.

The Secretary of Transport, Heidi Alexander, said the government was “in mind to approve” the plan.

However, the deadline for a decision is now moved at the end of October, as key problems persist.

The main blockages facing the proposals are related to the environment, especially noise prevention and the provision of public transport, according to Sky Newswith the planning inspectorate that makes recommendations in these fields.

Despite a second runway already at the airport, it cannot be used with the main one due to its proximity. It is currently used as a taxi or as a stand-in track if the first is non-functional.

Gatwick proposed to move 12 meters further to solve the problem, adding that the second track would allow another 100,000 flights annually and create 14,000 jobs.

However, economists warn against this statement, saying that it will not create new jobs, but instead “travel jobs from the wider regions in the UK.”

Dr. Alex Chapman, a senior economist at the New Economics Foundation, said: “Gatwick’s growth will not magic the economic growth that the government desperately wants. The business air trip has collapsed while the expansion will see three times more tourists to leave the country while they come.

“Voters living outside London and South -est will not thank the Government for this decision. The extension of airports such as Gatwick does not create new jobs -it travels jobs from the wider regions in the UK, especially the internal tourism industry, which is a key source of expenses outside London and South -estului.”

Mr. Chapman explains how the country already has a large number of international airports, the British capable of “catching cheap flights”. “If this government is so desperate for growth, it should focus on investments properly in vital public services on which the health of our economy really depends,” he adds.
