Suspend the increase in DSTV prices, GOVT Multichoice commands

The Federal Commission for Competition and Consumer Protection has guided Multichoice Nigeria, DSTV and GOTV operator, to suspend the increased subscription prices while waiting for the result of an ongoing investigation of the company’s tariff adjustment.

The consumer guard has revealed the directive in a statement signed by its corporate business director, Ijagwu on Thursday, citing the need to protect consumers from potential exploitations during the review process.

The order of the Commission complies with the Multichoic request for an extension regarding the programmed appearance before the regulatory authority regarding the increased concerns regarding the increase of the recurring prices of the company.

Earlier, FCCPC called Multichoice’s executive director to introduce himself to him on February 27 for an investigation hearing.

However, following the company’s request, the Commission rescheduled the hearing until March 6, 2025, mandating the participation of the CEO and the relevant officers and submitting a comprehensive response.

“As part of this directive, Multichoice is expressly trained to maintain the structure of existing prices on February 27, 2025, waiting for the Commission’s revision and the final determination in this regard,” the statement said.

FCCPC stressed that pricing is a precaution to protect consumers against arbitrary prices, while the investigation is ongoing.

Multichoice previously informed customers about the imminent price review, which will enter into force on March 1, 2025, attributing the adjustment to increasing the costs of providing the premium content.

According to the opinion entitled “Price adjustments for the DSTV and GOTV packages”, the company said: “Dear Customer, please note that actually March 1, 2025, there will be a price adjustment to all DSTV packages. This is to allow us to continue to offer our world -class and international content customers, delivered through the best technology. ”

While the Compact Plus and Premium bouquets will remain at N30,000 and, respectively, at N44,500, the DSTV Compact package is among the subscriptions that are expected to be affected by the price increase.

FCCPC said that additional updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
