Letter from the publisher: Trump’s AP’s PP is not a small beef. Is an attack on the first amendment

Letter from the publisher: Trump’s AP’s PP is not a small beef. Is an attack on the first amendment

A previous version of this story has incorrectly stated the circumstances of a comment by Richard Nixon. He made the statement in 1962 while the governor of California.

Two judicial records were largely overlooked in terms of processes, ordinances and appeals that generated the aggressive agenda of the Trump administration to restore the government and American policy.

To the surface The costumes, deposited by Associated Press Against the administration, they are about restoring access to white house news and presidential appearances. The water has been forbidden for what seems to be a phacical reason: it will not refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America”, a presidential order that Donald Trump has signed his first day.

But this is not a matter of laughter – there are much deeper principles in the game. The first, which the AP cites in its process and its tracking records, is the constitutional freedom of the press in the United States.

This definition of freedom includes independence – the right and ability to report and show events without government dictates or constraint.

The second important principle is the ability of the media to have access to news and news events, to ask questions independently and to record events with photos and video, all to inform and represent the greater interests of the public in America.

Associated Press – A global non -profit news cooperation in 1846 – is one of the leading leading news providers, reported contemptuously for large and small news agencies throughout America. (Advance Local, the MLIVE -Mom company, is a member of the App.)

Locking AP blocks transparency in the government, the period.

The tension between presidents and press is nothing new. Herbert Hoover has made reporters to present questions in writing, saying that “the President of the United States will not be asked that a chicken thief whose names does not even know.”

Richard Nixon, as a Governor in California, told the press “you will no longer have Nixon to kick” when he threatened to stop press conferences. The presidents of each administration had their favorite reporters and others they avoided.

But none, until Trump, denied all access to an entire news organization. The prohibition of its water administration has extended to the airport asphalts, meetings with leaders of other nations and events.

AP has its reasons to not accept the “Gulf of America” as a favorite style: the water body is not fully controlled by the US and is internationally known as the Gulf of Mexico.

Instead, the AP accepted Trump’s order renamed Denali as Mount McKinley, saying “the area is only in the United States and, as president, Trump has the authority to change the federal geographical names in the country.”

All these seem logical. However, it is not about logic – it is about control and festivity. Trump tries to bend everything he interacts with with his whims and goals. He entered the position in his first term, who led the term “fake news” and calling the Mainstream media “the enemy of the people”.

These labels were not labels, they were tactics to undermine the centuries -old relationships that Americans have with the news sources that work for them.

Trump did not follow conventions that recognized the necessary dynamics of the government press, such as participating in the Correspondents from the White House (the only president who has not participated since Calvin Coolidge started the tradition in 1924). Trump opened the second term By the Date of CBS News and the DES Moines register.

You do not need a complete psychological training on the president to know that he does not like to be challenged or questioned – you just have to ask the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. But this is the media -we report what the authorities say, but we also ask questions to achieve clarity, to emphasize inconsistencies, to simply understand it correctly.

I can anticipate the emails I will receive by saying that the media is allowed to bend and we get what comes to us to be a pain in the President. Although this is not our goal, it is our constitutional right and debt to respond to the leadership.

The support of the law so that the AP is in its historical role as one of the three permanent wire services in reducing the Press Pound at the White House, throughout the ideologies and the friendly specialized means, such as Fox News and Newsmax, have signed letters that ask the administration to raise the prohibition.

This is for a reason: the coverage of traditional news organizations can go to one inclination or another, but you can know that it is independent, without governmental manipulation. Anything else is propaganda.

MLIVE stays with Associated Press. And together we stand for the right of the American people to cover and question the leaders of their government through the independent and unlimited media.
