LPKF: The European Patent Office confirms the Essential Lide patent

The European Patent Office has confirmed the validity of a fundamental patent Lide by LPKF Laser & Electronics SE.

Leri (Laser Etching) technology is one of LPKF’s strategic growth initiatives and plays a central role in the business development of the technology company. Lide makes it possible to process the glass quickly, precisely and without damage, such as microcracks. This makes Lide a key activation technology for many field fields, such as advanced packaging, but also for display. Given the limits of miniaturization of semiconductors, the major producers are becoming more and more to glass as a carrier material. Lide supports this transformation and has already been proven in series production.

An external opposition against the 2022 granted to the European Patent in the field was heard in October 2024 before the opposition division of the European Patent Office. In this process, the latest version of the request submitted by LPKF was completely maintained. The opposite anonymous part did not file an appeal against the decision until the deadline for February 23, 2025. This means that many years of LPKF development are sustainably protected by law. Moreover, this decision of the Court confirms the global IP position of LPKF in the field of structuring of glass components.
