U-17 WWC: Flamingos slump after defeat to USA

Nigeria’s Flamingos crashed out of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after a 2-0 loss to USA in the quarter-finals in Santiago.

Bankole Olowookere’s side won all three of their group games, scoring nine goals and conceding just once.

The West Africans, however, found the Americans too difficult to handle.

The Flamingos started the game brightly but ran out of steam after that.

Kennedy Fuller gave the USA the lead from the penalty spot three minutes before the break.

The Americans put the game beyond the Nigerian girls with Kimmi Ascanio scoring the second in the 73rd minute.

The USA avenged their loss to Nigeria at the same stage of the competition two years ago in India.

This is the first time they have reached the semi-finals since 2008.
