The draft law proposed in the Alabama Legislature would expand the laws on animal cruelty

Montgomery, Ala. (WSFA) – The invoices of the house 149 and 249 deposited in the Alabama legislature would provide stricter laws for the mistreatment of pets.

Bill House 149proposed by Rep. Phillip Ensler (D-Mentgomery) would place limitations on how you can tie your dog.

“Dogs are not meant to be tied to a tree outside a short leash,” said Shauna Eakin with the River Rescue Animal region, based in Montgomery.

The draft law requires certain methods to be used to tie a dog and to do penalty because it has not properly linked a dog to a class A.

“I responded to so many calls about animals that have no shelter, no food, no water, I made so many dogs that are seriously burnt, who are just binding out, freezes, die of heat blows, it is horrible.” Eakin said.

House Bill 249, proposed by Rep. Brock Colvin (R-Albertville) would make abandoning a dog or domesticated cat a class A crime, adding the abandonment of the definition of animal cruelty. If it passes, that means that someone convicted would have fined up to $ 3,000 and will cope up to a year in prison.

Both draft laws were sent to the Agriculture and Forestry Committee of the Chamber.
