The deadline to obtain a real license that respects the ID for the on-board aircraft that is approaching for W.Va residents.

Charleston, W.Va (WDTV) – Do you have a golden star on the Western Virginia driving license? If not, there is time to get the actual driving license according to the ID with that star on it before the spring requirement starts at airports.

Starting May 7, people who want to get on a plane for an internal flight will need a driving license in accordance with the real ID. If the driving license does not respect real, they will need another form of approved identification, such as a passport, to climb their flight or to enter a safe federal installation or a military base.

The driving license of the real ID has a small star to indicate that he complies with the federal regulations that set minimum security standards, officials said.

The residents of Western Virginia have the option to upgrade to a real ID or they can remain with an older standard driving license. However, a standard license can no longer be used to climb flights.

In order to obtain the real license that respects ID, natural persons will have to visit their local DMV office and bring certain documents to prove US citizenship and residence in Western Virginia.

The necessary documents include a proof of identity (US Passport or Birth Certificate), proof of legal presence for non-American citizens, two evidence of Western Virginia, your Social Security Card and current driving license, if you apply to exchange of another US state.

“The real ID is a coordinated effort of the federal government to improve the reliability and accuracy of the management licenses and identification books,” says John C. Allen, TSA’s federal security director for Western Virginia. “Improvements are intended to inhibit the ability of terrorists to evade detection by using fraudulent identification.”
