A teenager who instigated an “unprovocated” attack on an American tourist in the center of Dublin almost two years ago, was said to spend 20 months in detention.

US tourist Stephen Termini went out for drinks on the night of July 19, 2023, when he was seriously assaulted by three teenage boys on Store Street.

A 17 -year -old, who initiated the attack, was guilty for the aggression that caused injury earlier this month.

He was 16 years old at the time of attack and cannot be appointed for legal reasons.

Two other boys pleaded separately guilty of aggression that caused serious injury and violent disorders.

Judge Martin Nolan imposed a period of 32 months of detention of the second boy involved in the attack last July and a 26-month period on the third boy in October last year.

On Wednesday, Judge Nolan, Judge Nolan, said that Mr. Terini “thought of his own business”, when the first boy attacked “quite vicious” for reasons only by himself.

The judge stated that the court decided “reluctantly” that custody is required. Mentioning that the boy has previous convictions, including for aggression that caused injury, Judge Nolan said he “received his chances from other courts and did not take it.”

Mr. Termini was in court to hear the sentence. The court has heard that since then it has changed its last name to Donnelly to reflect its Irish inheritance.

The adolescent has nine previous convictions for crimes, including aggression, causing injury, violent disorders, theft, crimes and public order.

The investigative guard accepted a suggestion by Conor Devaly sc, the defense, that Mr. Termini “did not try to talk to some girls on the street before being set up.”

The court heard that Mr. Termini was initially taken to Mater Hospital and was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital. He has no memory of the incident.

A medical report stressed that he supported bleeding to the brain along with skull, orbital and cheek fractures. Mr. Termini required an emergency procedure for saving vision and specialized intensive care for two weeks.

The court has heard that he had continuous health problems due to the rank of brain injury.

In a declaration of impact of the victim read to the court on his behalf as a diarrhea Collins BL, the criminal prosecution, Mr. Terini said he has medical costs and other costs of € 103,000. He said he was forgiving the boys, but he would like them to help cover their costs.

He said he suffered subsequent effects, including PTSD, constant pain and sleep problems. Mr. Terini said he cannot walk without a reed, he has rods in the back and can no longer speak clearly.

He said he did not keep what happened against “the good people of Ireland.”
