The pilot’s error was a factor in the latest major accidents and almost misrepresentation, according to the US transport secretary, demanding tougher penalties for pilots who ignore air traffic controllers.

In an interview with NBC News, Sean Duffy said that pilots should lose their licenses if they ignore the instructions of air traffic controllers.

“A space without consequences in which you make errors, serious errors and do not pay any price for it, something is wrong with it,” he said.

“There is a pilot error in the game in each of these incidents,” he added, stressing that they have drawn the renewed attention to the need for safety and system improvements.

“And maybe this is how we do the pilots to start paying attention again and follow the direction of air traffic controllers,” Duffy said.

He also announced a plan to accelerate the hiring of air traffic controllers between February 27 and March 17 and to raise the beginning salaries by 30% for the candidates participating in the Academy.

The statement came against the backdrop of a series of accidents that fueled fear and anxiety among air travelers starting with the middle of last year of a military helicopter and a regional American Airlines, near Washington, DC, who killed 67 people.

On February 18, just a few weeks after the collision, the new Trump administration began to reduce hundreds of federal aviation administration, including personnel who directly or indirectly supported air traffic controllers, installations and technology used for air safety, according to the union representing workers.

The fires came as part of the measures to reduce the costs that the critics have called undiscriminated and reckless.
