A few months after the deadly stabbing of Remington Park, crews install new safety measures

Colorado Springs, there. (KKTV) – Remington Park will soon have new headlights, much to ease those who live nearby.

In front of Colorado Springs utilities, the works continued on Thursday at a project of installing 13 new headlights in the park and around them.

This comes eight months after it was Tadeo Francisco Villavicencio-Remirez stabbed to death in the park on June 17, 2024. At this moment there was still no arrest.

A neighbor said that the death of Villavicencio-Remirez left him.

“Honestly, after the tragedy that happened here, I saw much less, fewer people at night, fewer families here at night, fewer people walking their dogs,” said Joshua Bouwkamp.

Death was not the only incident in the park that neighbors were concerned about. A month later, community members he met With the police in Colorado Springs and city officials to share their concerns about what is happening in the park after the dark. Concerns vary from juvenile behavior to street races and even drug activity.

One of the members of the community of solutions were to install new headlights. After gathering nearly 100 signatures and sent them to the city, Bouwkamp said they received the word that the project was approved in January.

“We are delighted, the community has been rally together to do this and we are extremely pleased to light the park,” Bouwkamp said. “One of the guys from CSU (Colorado Springs Utility) said that some of the neighbors here might need stop curtains, because it will be bright.”
