Case Yediyurappa Pocso – The Special Court is aware of the POSCO case charges against BS Yediyurappa, issues a summons to the BJP – Karnataka News leader

A special court became aware of an action sheet filed by the Karnataka Cid police against former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa in a case based on the law on child’s protection (POCSO). The development marks a significant step in the legal procedures in progress against the BJP leader.

Following the court’s decision, Yediyurappa was directed to appear before the court on March 15th.

On February 7, The High Court Karnataka refused to quit Pocso file against BJP leader BS Yediyurappa but he gave her anticipatory bail. The court, while allowed the petition, has decided that the order that is aware of the case is eliminated, but the crime, investigation and the final report remain intact.

The justice of M Nagaprasanna, who granted Yediyurappa provisional protection against arrest, pronounced the verdict after hearing arguments on both sides.

The case was registered on March 14, 2024, following a complaint by a woman who claimed that Yediyurappa molested her 17-year-old daughter when they visited their residence in the Bedignuru colony, seeking help. The mother, who has since died, also accused the BJP leader of trying to silence them, offering money.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a first information report (FI) against Yediyurappa in accordance with section 8 of Pocso Act and section 354 letter (a) of the Indian Criminal Code (IPC) for the sexual harassment of a minor.

During the hearings, Yediyurappa’s lawyer denied the accusations, arguing that the mother and daughter were previously approaching him about a previous case in which the girl was sexually assaulted by another person. “He checked the details of a previous case in which the victim was sexually assaulted by another person and for whom she and her mother were previously approaching him (Yediyurappa),” his lawyer said.

However, the state pursuit has fought requests, arguing that there is sufficient material against Yediyurappa and that the accusation of sexual assault of a minor is an “attractive” crime that guarantees the process.
