The Independent Police Investigation Directorate (IPID) 2023/2024 The annual performance report is awful and exhibits a disturbing increase in the incorrect police behavior in South Africa. With over 5,000 cases reported in the last year, the report pains a bleak image of the law officers who violate the laws they have to keep.

Yes will launch an immediate IPID well to determine how these abuses were left; actions taken in response; And if the officers involved are facing criminal charges.

Among the most shocking statistics:

  • 460 deaths due to police action, an increase of 17% compared to the previous year.
  • 212 deaths in police custody.
  • 273 cases of torture, marking a 20% increase in reported incidents.
  • An amazing 75% increase in rape cases in police custody.
  • Over 3,100 cases of attack, emphasizing the continuous concerns regarding the brutality of the police.

Increasing improper behavior and brutality within SAPS reflects a failure of the mechanisms of training, recruitment and responsibility. Although there are exceptional men and women, we cannot afford an additional increase in this scary behavior.

We must restore public confidence and provide a professional, ethical and responsible police service.

Yes will continue to respond to SAPS and boost for urgent changes, including the devolution of the police powers to ensure a professional, well -trained and ethical police force to serve people, rather than instill in fear.
