Chicago Bears will buy an offensive Jonah Jackson quiet in a trade with Los Angeles Rams, a confirmed league source athletic Tuesday.

Trade will become official at the beginning of the year of the League on March 12.

To strengthen the offensive line, Bears’s general manager Ryan Poles sent a sixth round to Los Angeles, and Bears will take Jackson’s entire contract, which will be held by 2026. $ 17.5 million will be due in 2025.

Jackson signed a three-year contract with Rams last year, but played in only four games in season 2024. A selection from the third round of Lions in 2020, Jackson started 57 games for Detroit between 2020-23 and made Pro Bowl in 2021 at the left guard. Ben Johnson, coach New Bears, was the coordinator of the Lions crossing game that season, and then was their offensive coordinator in the next two seasons, with Jackson starting in front.

How does this affect the free agency and Bears projects?

One down, two to leave? Three to leave? Bear still needs the offensive line to address the free agency and the project, but by purchasing Jackson, at least they have a veteran in the fold – not to mention someone who should be familiar with the playbook.

Jackson is only 28 years old and can slip into the left guard. The salary makes me believe that it will receive the first crack at the beginning of 2025 and it is certainly not as expensive as the Pro Bowl bosses, Trey Smith. Bears still have the flexibility to add the Delman Drew Dalman or Aaron Banks or Will Fries. They can still target Will Campbell or Armand Membou from Missouri or Tyler Booker from Alabama in the project.

Plan B Options offender options for bears with Trey Smith outside the market

It is about introducing resources in line and building them in a way to allow Johnson to lead his offensive on the right path. When we talk to the opposite coaches to the combination, any conversation about who could add bears to running back or wide receiver or how Caleb Williams could continue to develop, has always returned to the offensive line. This is the first step and should take the next steps a little lighter, but they are still working. – Kevin Fishbain

What does this tell us about Ben Johnson and about his offense

The addition of Jackson – who played in just four games last season because of a shoulder injury – means trusting the new coach Ben Johnson. The familiarity Johnson has with Jackson over four years together in Detroit helps to deny any risk involved in the agreement.

Lions tried to sign Jackson last year, but left for RAMS and a three-year-old contract, $ 51 million, which was agreed on the first day of the negotiation window. Then Detroit signed Veteran Kevin Zeitler for a one year agreement, $ 6 million to occupy Jackson’s place. Subsequently, Lions signed the right approach to Sewell Pene and the left attack Taylor Decker at extensions.

A certain reshuffle happened for lions after movements. Graham Glasgow took over at the left guard, where Jackson played, while Zeitler took over at the right guard. Zeitler played well, while Jackson had a forgotten season, with Rams marked by his shoulder injury. – Adam Jahns

Why Jackson was spent for RAMS

Jackson’s signing last March triggered a chain reaction for Rams, which actually led to their new start center. Initially, the left guard Steve Avila (who had a Rookie season in 2023) moved to the center to make room for Jackson at Guard. Avila played this deep role in the training camp until Jackson suffered an injury and Avila moved again to keep with the intention of Jackson to play the center. Jackson reinstated his shoulder in week 2 (he moved to the guard since Avila injured in week 1) and went to the injured reserve.

Beaux Limmer Rookie appeared as the center of Rams and played well enough to ensure the role even after Jackson returned from the injured spare season. Avila also returned to the left guard, so Rams had an offensive $ 51 million, who didn’t play for them in Jackson.

The team gave Jackson permission to seek a trade as the season started, with the intention of downloading his remaining salary. GM Les Snead applauded Jackson in the recent comments for how well he managed the unusual situation as a teammate. Between Re-signing of left-wing attacks Alaric Jackson At a three-year transaction last week and moving Jonah Jackson, the offensive line is set for 2025, with all the straight veteran approaches, Rob Hauven, in the contract for at least the next two seasons. – Jourdan Rodrigue
