Long Island driver accused of driving in the state of intoxication in fatal accident

A man from Amityville was accused on Wednesday night while driving in a state of intoxication, after Suffolk said he hit and killed a pedestrian.

The police said that Rand Strollo, 62, was driving a Hyundai Tucson around 11:20 pm, heading south to the Great Neck Road from Copiague, when Fatal Mario Matute, 59, hit Copiague.

Datutes went to Great Neck Road at the intersection with Malta Street, the police said. He was pronounced dead on the spot.

The police accused Strollo with DWI and the criminal possession of a controlled substance. The police have imposed Hyundai for a safety control.

Strollo took place waiting for his notification on Thursday, at the district court in Central Islip. A defense lawyer was not listed.
