Preston, minn. (KTTC) -a salad and tomato farmer in Preston works to keep his family and business healthy, after his wife was injured in a car accident.

Now that work and life looks different, Andrew Serio asks for the help of the community.

You may have seen his Big Red Serio Farms truck around South -estului Minnesota.

If not in his farm, he spends most of his time delivering fresh salads and tomatoes to the markets and restaurants to the local farmers.

“Many people know me from the Rochester farmers market and I love their tomatoes,” Serio said.

Now, with his wife recovered from a car accident, the work was much harder.

On February 25, Jenny, Andrew’s wife, was about to visit her father in Winona, when she was hit by another driver because of frozen roads.

Jenny suffered a shattered hand and hip and will need a replacement of the hip. She receives medical treatment at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester

At the Serio Farm, Jenny was a great help in their salad greenhouse. He also worked at the BP Preston gas station.

Now, when Jenny is expected to be without work for six months a year, Andrew has to work much harder to pay for medical expenses, while keeping the farm on her own.

“There was only a lot. I went from a family with two instantaneous revenues to a family with an income. It is hard not to get to see the person you love who is now injured, ”said Serio.

Serio has expressed that he wants to travel to his wife every day, but it can be difficult because of the agricultural season and the distance.

Serio grows producing in his greenhouses to provide fresh salad and tomatoes throughout the year.

It can be a hard job, but it is Serio’s passion, and the community can support him buying from his local business.
