The Orange County Council adopts the resolution for the children of deported parents

Santa Ana, California (CNS) – Orange county supervisors approved a resolution on Tuesday to prepare for a possible growth of children without tutors due to the application of intensified immigration.

The Board of Directors voted 4-1 for a resolution led by the supervisor Vicente Sarmiento and the chairman of the Orange County Board, Doug Chaffee. Supervisor Janet Nguyen expressed the only vote.

Sarmiento said that the impulse of the resolution resulted from the investigations of the local school officials about what was done to plan a potential increase in the number of abandoned children.

The resolution “clearly shows that we stay with” the children who will need services and tutors if their parents are deported, said Sarmiento.

“It does not seek to create new rights or privileges,” said Sarmiento. “Rather, recognize the existing rights they have.” ‘

Sarmiento said that children who have one or both parents in the country “live illegally with fear”.

He added: “We cannot let the rights of these children be eroded due to the immigration status of a parent.”

If there is a growth of deported parents, it would have an impact on the county social service agency and “we cannot be caught with a flat foot,” said Sarmiento.

The director of the Social Service Agency, a trance, told the supervisors that when a child is left without a parent, officials are trying to find a relative who can be a guardian. If this plan fails, they are placed in the Orangewood installation, while officials continue to look for other options, including adoptive parents, he said.

Nguyen asked him how many cases he registered the county about abandoned children due to deportation in the last 10 years, and he said that it does not exist.

Supervisor Don Wagner said that the children left without a parent “frequently happens” due to arrests or other circumstances.

Wagner also questioned how much money the county should spend for a problem review to determine how to plan for it when the county is in a “hard budget cycle”.

Tran said the cost will not be “onerous”.

The supervisor Katrina Foley raised the issue of a “care authorization” to a guardianship approved by the court. Many parents, she said, were advised that the authorization of another adult be careful is sufficient in circumstances, but has questioned this.

Foley said that there are about 25,000 children in the county with at least one parent without a document and added: “We cannot cope with 25,000 children.”

Foley said that there should be “clear information” offered to residents about the need for a guardianship.

Supervisors also approved on Tuesday a restoration plan between 11:00 and 17:00 hours at the Orange County Care shelter and examine the feasibility of extended evening hours for a day of the week.

County officials will also examine how other counties deal with trap and return neutral programs to consider one of them.
