Former Georgia University receiver, Rodarius “Rara” Thomas, was sentenced to probation after reaching a plea agreement in his 2024 arrest in Athens.

Thomas was arrested in July on charges of cruelty of the second degree to children and battery of domestic violence. These accusations were rejected as part of the plea agreement.

Backstory:

Thomas transferred to the UGA of the state of Mississippi in 2022.

In 2024, the officers with the Police Department of Athens-Clarke County arrested Thomas and accused him of three accusations of cruel seconds against children and three accusations of battery of domestic violence. Later he was released on bail.

Officials did not share details about what led to Thomas’s arrest.

Thomas was endlessly suspended from the Bulldogii in Georgia after the arrest and then released from the team later.

“We want nothing but the best before,” said head coach Kirby Smart after announcing the news.

That was it Thomas’s second arrest in his time at the University of Georgia. In January 2023, he was charged with false prison and a number of family violence offenses. These charges were abandoned on March 7 after completing a pre-process diversion program, according to judicial documents.

What do we know:

According to an update of Thomas’s lawyers, the former broad receiver entered an Alford plea on Monday at two accusations of crime -disorderly conduct.

An Alford pleading allows an defendant to maintain his innocence, but he admits that it is in their interest to be guilty.

As part of the pleading agreement, the charges of crime were rejected.

A judge sentenced Thomas to 24 months of evidence based on the first law of the criminals of Georgia.

“I am happy that we managed to get this result very favorable for Rara and we look forward to seeing the great things that Mr. Thomas does personally and professionally in the future,” said lawyer Kim Stephens in a statement. “Mr. Thomas is just waiting to return to the field doing what he loves.”
