The truth behind the Phonepe that offers Rs 696 Cashback during the IPL 2025

Several social media users have shared a post that claims that Phonepe has offered a Cashback RS 696 in the Premier League Indian season. However, an investigation by the PTI’s verification office found that the post was false. Phonepe has not announced any such cashback offer, and the posts in the post led to fraudulent, non -functional pages.

Claim

On March 22, a Facebook user bearing the name “IPL-Hub” shared a PHONE post that claims to offer an RS 696 cashback this season. The post also shared a link in which the user had to register to benefit from cashback.

The text in the post, which obtained 979 likes, initially in Hindi, read: “This IPL phone offers Rs 696 FREE Cashback.”

Investigate

The office carried out the viral post through the envy instrument and extracted several key frames. Running one of the key frames through Google Lens, the office found several users shared with similar claims.

To check the claim, the office checked the link to the viral posting that reads Get.offer.com, which does not bear the company’s name. Below is a screenshot that highlights the same.

In the next part of the investigation, after the office related to the given link, he led us to a website called “Summers Gift”, which was inaccessible at the time of writing this report.

The office then checked its own registration of the Phonepe domain, which showed that the company’s site was registered in 2015, through the Godaddy Domain registration site.

For an additional check, I scanned all the social handle on the phone to check if they launched such a cashback scheme, but the search did not give results by mentioning the request made in the viral post.

By making a personalized search for keywords, the office came across a blog on the official site of Phonepe, whose title wrote: “Remain from cashback fraud!” The blog mentioned that these links and social pages are intelligently designed to resemble the official site and the official Phonepe logo to deceive you to believe that the offer is authentic. He added that Phonepe does not offer cashback or rewards by phone calls or links.

“No additional action is required from you to request or accept cashback. Phonepe does not provide cashback or rewards for phone calls or links. Any URL, social posts or promising phone calls are deceitful,” the blog shows.
