Chase with two states ends in Steuben County | Heraldrepublican

Angola – the deputies of the sheriff in Steuben County assisted the sheriff’s officers from Branch County to stop a chase that originates in Michigan and crossed the state lines at the end of Saturday afternoon.

James Edward Williams, 51 years old, Bronson, Michigan, was arrested after collapsing an alleged vehicle stolen right south of the US 20 on SR 327, the information from the Sheriff’s office in Steuben County said.

Williams led a pursuit with officers from Branch County, who alerted Steuben County that were directed to Steuben County, right north of Orland.

While the pursuit continued, a press release issued by the deputy chief of Steuben, Mike Meeks, Williams is assumed to collapse through road construction barriers north of Orland, almost hitting two construction workers.

The deputies of the sheriff in Steuben County responded quickly in the area, because the pursuit continued south on SR 327, at a high speed. Williams was driving a white fortress lifting the stealing fort.

Williams collapsed just before the deputies of Sheriff Steuben arrive on the spot to help deputies from Branch County. During a fight after the pursuit ended, Williams would have beaten one of the deputies of the School sheriff while trying to arrest him.

Williams was transported to Cameron ER by the deputies of the sheriff for medical authorization due to the accident, after refusing the medical treatment from the Emergency Medical Service of Steuben County on the spot.

A common investigation was carried out, and the sheriff’s detectives in Steuben County were called to attend. The investigation revealed that the vehicle that Williams was driving was stolen from St. Joseph, Michigan, is shown in the statement. In Williams’s possession, Marijuana and drug parafernal was also suspected.

“Due to the efforts of collaboration and the thorough investigation by the sheriff’s offices in Steuben County and Branch County, the stolen property was recovered for the victims, and a criminal suspect was removed from the streets,” said Meks.

The investigation further indicated that Williams can be connected to offenses in Lagrange County, as well as to St. Joseph, Michigan. After being eliminated medically for incarceration, Williams was booked in the prison in Steuben County for the following preliminary charges in Indiana:

• theft of a vehicle, a level 6 offense;

• resistance to law enforcement using a vehicle, offense of level 6;

• battery to a public safety official, crime of level 6;

• Criminal madness, the crime of level 6;

• resistance to law application, class A crime;

• unstoppable leadership, class A crimes;

• Possession of marijuana, B -class crime; and

• possession of parafernalia, the crime of class C

Williams remains withheld without bail awaiting an initial occurrence in court. The investigation is ongoing and additional taxes can be requested in Branch and St. Joseph from Michigan and Lagrange county in Indiana.

Helping the office of the sheriff on the spot were the office of the sheriff of the county and EMS from Steuben County.
