The accused, identified as Butta Singh, worked as a technician AC and owned a store in Sewak Park, he said.

Compared to financial losses and struggling to repay loans, he would have stolen gold jewelry from his house and reported a false burglary, the officer added.

Police Deputy Commissioner Ankit Singh said: “Butta Singh filed a complaint on March 21, saying that, between 15:00 and 18:00, unidentified people stole a set of gold necklace, a golden mangalsutra, two gold rings, a gold chain and 45,000 in money from his residence. ”

One case was registered at the UTAM Nagar Police Station in relevant sections in Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

During the probe, Singh’s wife told the police that during the incident, she left home to buy food, while her husband was at work and children at school. When he returned, the jewelry was found missing.

DCP said investigators noted that there are no signs of forced entry and only Singh and his wife had the keys of the house.

The CCTV filming in the area did not show unknown people who came to the building at the time, but Singh himself was seen entering and leaving the house in nine minutes.

His mobile phone records have revealed messages from a financial company on gold promises, DCP said.

After facing the evidence, Singh confessed that he stole jewelry to eliminate delayed loan payments. He took a loan when he purchased the store in 2022 and later took another loan to renovate him.

In addition, he bought a taxi with seven seats on bank credit, but financial delays drove it in deep debts, the officer said.

The police recovered a set of gold necklace and a gold ring from its possession. Other gold articles have been shown to be mortgaged at a pawn shop in Utam Nagar.

Singh has no previous criminal records, the police said.
