A crime investigation was launched after a 57 -year -old was killed and a woman and a child were seriously injured during a knife attack.

Detectives said the knife attack had happened in a Hartfield Avenue house in Brighton, East Sussex, Around 7.30 am Tuesday morning.

A 19 -year -old was arrested on the spot under the suspicion of serious murder and aggression and taken to the police cells.

A Sussex police spokesman said: “I launched a crime investigation following the death of a Brighton man. The officers participated and found a 57 -year -old man inside the property. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on the spot.

“A woman and a boy were also located in the address with serious injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. We are not looking for anyone about this incident.”

A post-mortem will be carried out on the body of the man killed and an investigation will be opened later by the coroner East Sussex.

The victims have not yet been called by the police.

Officer Rachel Carr said: “Following an emergency call to the police, an immediate response was sent to Hartfield Avenue, where, unfortunately, a man was found dead, and a woman and a child were seriously injured.

“A suspect is under arrest and a fast -moving investigation is conducted to determine exactly what happened and why.

“This is a tragic incident and we understand that it will cause shock and alarm among the local community. However, it is not believed that there is a wider threat to the public at this time.”

A cord was placed around Brighton property, and scientist forensic experts were called on the spot to collect evidence about the incident.
