An invitation card in marriage helped the police in resolving a robbery case Maharashtra’s The Palghar district, with the victim’s brother, was found involved in the crime, said an official on Thursday (April 3, 2025).

The incident took place on March 28, near the Vavar village in Jawhar, he said.

“The victim, Boru Khandu Binnar (30 years old), a resident in Khodala in Mokhada Taluka here, was traveling in a utility vehicle when three unidentified people reported under the pretext that their motorcycle broke down,” said the superintendent of the Balasaheb Patil police.

Believing their pleading for help, the man asked the driver to stop to help them. The robbers then threw chilli powder in the eyes of the man and driver of the utility vehicle and took $ 6.85,500 in cash kept behind the driver’s seat. They also threatened the man with serious consequences before running, the official said.

Jawhar police subsequently registered a file against unidentified culprits since then in sections 309 (4) and 3 (5) (common intention) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

During the investigation at the crime site, the police found traces of hot pepper powder and a regular proof – an invitation book in marriage in which the hot pepper powder was wrapped, said the official.

The police followed a person whose name was mentioned on the invitation and found it involved in the robbery. Later, three other culprits were also ennobled, he said, adding that the four were arrested in the last two days.

According to the official, out of the four arrested persons, Datu Khandu Binnar (34 years old), the victim’s brother, would have planned the robbery.

The other three arrested persons were identified as Kiran Ananta Lăte (23 years old), a resident in Mokhada, whose name was on the invitation card, Parmeshwar Kamlakar Zole (24 years old) and Dada Bajirao Pehre (24), both from Nashik, he said.

The police recovered the entire cash stolen from the arrested persons, the official said.
